Reproductive & Pre-Conception Acupuncture  in Adelaide

Acupuncture for Reproductive Health.

Creating  harmony and health balance.

In the pursuit of providing the best possible start to life for our babies, the holistic practice of Traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) is often employed by women and men who are preparing to be parents.

So much is interconnected.

For many women and men, sub optimal health may be a consideration as a contributing factor when having difficulty in creating a child.  In TCM this is recognised as a reflection of a deeper underlying imbalance.

The holistic approach of TCM recognises every person is an individual. To understand how your health may be affecting your Reproductive health, TCM can identify imbalances that may exist.

In a consultation a thorough TCM investigation will involve many health relation questions and examination of the tongue and pulse to assist in finding a pattern of disharmony that forms a TCM diagnosis and treatment plan.

A TCM pattern of disharmony is not some great mystery and in consult I will help show you that it is mostly a common sense way of understanding of how all symptoms are related to the big picture of current health.

Through my approach of the correction of any underlying imbalances, I assist in creating enhanced state of wellbeing.

My Holistic Healthcare Approach

I have undertaken supplementary educational opportunities over many years in the Acupuncture and Naturopathic fields in order to understand the many Medical diagnosis's and Western Medical treatments in order to provide comprehensive natural female and male support.

I’m happily married to my wife, the mother of my 2 children. I have a great understanding of the need for a delicate, compassionate understanding of the issues and privacy involved.

My approach is to integrate the techniques of both TCM and western medical diagnosis in order to formulate a naturally oriented treatment plan. This provides an easy-to-understand analysis of your condition from both the TCM and western medicine viewpoint.

Through understanding your unique circumstances and then by combining where appropriate, acupuncture, herbal medicine, nutritional therapy, exercise, and lifestyle adjustments, a plan can be individually tailored for the promotion of your energetic balance.

Pre-conception – Planning for a Healthy Baby

In Chinese medicine, there is the expression “cultivating the soil before planting the seed” which is consistent with the concept of the pre-conception period being vital to the health of the baby.

In essence, the health of the baby is dependent on the quality of the egg and sperm.

The health of the parents before and at the time of conception and the mother’s health during the early stages of her pregnancy have an influence on the health of the baby.

How Many Sessions Do I Need?

Timing and consistency of treatment for women, whether having acupuncture or taking herbs, is of primary importance as there are specific adjustments that can be made at each week of the cycle.

Missing a week of treatment may lose an important opportunity to heal a particular segment of the four-phase menstrual cycle.

It takes a minimum of three consecutive cycles (twelve sessions) to do the foundation work of regulation regardless of biological age.

In consultation and in depth analysis of the state of health will provide the necessary information to enable recommended plan of action.

Acupuncture and conventional Assisted Reproductive Techniques (ART) or In-vitro Fertilisation (IVF) ?

Today many Health practitioners and Western fertility specialists recommend acupuncture a worthy adjunct therapy, especially by those practitioners who are adequately trained in the field acupuncture.

It is best that you discuss this with your treating practitioner.

Acupuncture is also used to help alleviate some of the physical and emotional tension which is inherent in these extremely stressful procedures.

Here are a few common effects of stress:

  • Stress can affect the hypothalamus, which affects a women’s ability to ovulate.
  • Stress leads to the adrenals borrowing more progesterone to make more adrenal hormones. Therefore chronic stress can lead to lowers progesterone levels.
  • Stress can increase cortisol levels, which can block progesterone receptors and interfere with the embryo implanting into the uterine lining.
  • Stress can increase prolactin levels and interfere with ovulation.

Acupuncture and TCM  Research

Research into Chinese Medicine and acupuncture is still ongoing, so far insufficient numbers and quality of the trials hasn't been able to categorically provide positive evidence, (Cochrane Review), however many have demonstrated that greater investigations and higher quality trials are warranted.
